The 2009 Vintage was the vintage of the vineyard manager. Thanks to a
good planning we employed a new vineyard manager in March and so we had 4
people working steadily on our Riesling vines stretching on about 12
miles along the Central Mosel valley.
It was crucial due to high
humidity in the summer to have the vineyards in perfect condition with
less leaves then normal to guarantee a good air circulation in order to
prevent botrytis, peronospora and other diseases.
We mastered perfect
vineyard management this year and are very proud of the result with
extremely high ripeness levels as well as quantity in average, i.e.:
3.000l per acre.
Sufficient amounts of premium Auslese, Beerenausles
and Trockenbeerenauslese Vines were made in our flagship vineyard
Bernkasteler alte Badstube am Doctorberg.
We were able to harvest
grapes with good must density as well as almost no botrytis.
In the
Bernkasteler Johannisbrünnchen we still have grapes on the vine awaiting
the required frost to be able to produce the 2009 Riesling Eiswein (ice
wine).
