History

Dr. Heidemanns-Bergweiler is one of the most renown wine producers in the exclusive Middle Moselle winegrowing area of Germany. It produces only premium vintages and has established a reputation for offering only the highest quality Riesling wines. Ancestors  of the estate, the Bergweiler and Pruems from Wehlen, began winegrowing in the early 16th century. At the end of the 19th century, the estate was expanded by Zacharias Bergweiler, a greatly esteemed man in the area. Today the estate managed by his grand grandson, Stefan Pauly. The family home, office and historical cellars of Dr. Heidemanns-Bergweiler are located in Bernkastel-just next to the well-known %u201DDoctor Fountain%u201D near the banks of the Moselle river. Dr. Peter Pauly and his wife Helga run the estate properties together with their son Stefan. Dr. Peter Pauly has not only a degree in business management but also a doctorate in agriculture. The grapes and the vineyards on the beneficial grey slate soil are thus in proper hands.

The vineyards are planted with 100% Riesling grapes, and Dr. Peter Pauly was one of the first winemakers on the Moselle to bring modern winemaking skills to the region. All wines are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The net results of these methods are fresh, crisp, clean wines that reflect the connoisseus taste for pedigree vintages.

Dr.Heidemanns-Bergweiler has been focusing on international distribution for more than a century and the wines are today well distributed in the United States
